Listen To WVRM’s Brutally Raging New Blackened Grind Track Exclusively Here

With their new track “Thorn Palace,” the Greenville, South Carolina-based WVRM have delivered a gripping grind anthem that feels like it’s encapsulating an outpouring of rage that’s been a long time coming. Get an exclusive first listen below! Once you hit play, there’s just about nowhere to go but swept along.

The song appears on the group’s upcoming album Colony Collapse, which will be their debut release for Prosthetic Records. On this particular track, WVRM maintain their core of dramatically devastating grind attacks and also add uniquely captivating elements like audio samples of speakers calling for revolution and a devolution into slightly more drawn out, oppressively sludgy riff-lashes as the song concludes. That “slowdown” — only comparatively speaking — doesn’t serve as any sort of respite, per se — rather, it just helps define the incessantly pulsating core of swaggering brutality at the center of this song.

WVRM are a decidedly working class group, so to speak. (Isn’t that where the vast majority of us are situated anyway?) They pull their music from their lives around Greenville, where they’re one of the apparently very few players in a thin underground extreme metal community. Although they’re delivered with brutal roars dripping with venom, the opening lines of “Thorn Palace” seem to expound their position quite poignantly.

Vocalist Ian Nix belts out:

‘Upon ancient steps/ Where civilization once ascended and took its final breath/ I felt my soul decay.’

The group adds about this song:

‘Thorn Palace is one of our favorite tracks on the album. It captures our long cultivated history into a fast and caustic burst that ends with pure concrete. We had a ton of fun with this one.’
